Temwa Chawinga gave Wuhan a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute as she received a pass and rifled an effort into the net. Shanghai leveled the game in the 13th minute as Banda stole the ball from a Wuhan defender in the penalty area and slotted it past the goalkeeper. Just one minute later, Shen Mengyu's goal, from an assist from Banda, helped Shanghai gain a 2-1 lead.
The game went into turmoil after that as Ciro Immobile was sent off in the 69th minute for slapping Arturo Vidal after being tripped by the Chilean, while Inter's midfielder Stefano Sensi also saw red in the dying minutes.
After Shaanxi narrowed the gap to five points, Wuhan pulled away as four players connected on 3-pointers in a row, and led 40-35 at halftime.
Despite three losses in a row coming into the season, Wuhan coach Li Xin expressed her satisfaction in some respects.
Edin Dzeko wasted a good opportunity in the 21st minute as the hitman sprung the offside trap but ballooned it over the bar.
